Biosensor Chip

The biosensor chip consists of a solid support (microelectrode array) with immobilized capture probes and the supporting fluidics for sample handling. No additional reagents are necessary because the modified electrode surfaces are engineered to be intrinsically sensitive to specific protein binding. Each disposable biosensor will have up to one hundred electrodes capable of detecting different targets or controls within a fluidic system. The biosensor contains a single port for the addition of the sample and an array of electrodes, each uniquely bound to a specific capture probe. The target binds to the respective zones on the array. The binding of target to the protein array is detected by our biosensor reader and current at the discrete zone is related to the concentration of the substance or target being tested and measured in the sample.

Once the sample is added, it never leaves the biosensor, providing integral sample containment.  After the sample is added to the biosensor and the biosensor is inserted into the reader, the electrodes of the array are connected electronically and the electrode array is analyzed.  After the sample is read, the single-use cartridge is discarded.
