| Biosensor Cartridge |
The cartridge consists of a biochip (microelectrode array) with immobilized sensing elements and a supporting fluidics platform for sample handling. No additional reagents are necessary because the modified electrode surfaces are engineered to be intrinsically sensitive to specific biomarker detection.
The presence of a specific target is detected by the biosensor reader. Energy and current levels are measured at the discrete electrodes and are related to the concentration of the target being analyzed in the sample.
Once the sample is added, it never leaves the cartridge, providing integral sample containment. After the sample is added to the cartridge and the cartridge is inserted into the reader, the electrodes of the array are connected electronically and the electrode array is analyzed. After the sample is read, the single-use cartridge is discarded, similarly to glucose strips.
