President & CEO
Charles Pennington is the CEO of Ohmx Corporation. He has over 30 years of experience in the design, development, and commercialization of medical diagnostic reagents and instrumentation systems.
Before joining Ohmx, Charles was the President of TechLab, Inc., a manufacturer of medical diagnostics products targeted at intestinal diseases. Charles also served as the Director of Life Sciences at Luna Innovations, Director of Product Development at Luna Analytics and held various positions during his 15 years at Abbott Diagnostics.
Charles obtained his M.S. in Biochemistry and MBA from Virginia Tech and a B.S. Degree in Biology from the University of Akron.
Vice-President of Product Development
Paul Bao, Ph.D., joined Ohmx in 2011 with over 18 years of experience in the IVD industry.
From 2002 to 2011, he was Sr. Manager and the Head of Assay Research at Nanosphere Inc., a nanotechnology-based diagnostics company. At Nanosphere Inc. Paul led a team developing multiple ultra-sensitive protein and DNA assays, including an SNP assay in un-amplified human genomic DNA, which was the first FDA 510(k) cleared genetic test based on nanotechnology.
Paul was previously a Manager in the Biochemistry Department, at Corning Inc., working on developing microarray bioassays. Before Corning, he was a Senior Scientist at Vysis (now part of Abbott Laboratories) responsible for the development of a microarray-based CGH assays for detecting genetic diseases and cancers.
Paul was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Dupont-Merck Pharmaceutical where he focused on probe design and ligand-binding assay for drug discovery. Paul holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech., and a B.S. in Biology from the Zhejiang University, PRC (Hangzhou, China).
Vice-President of Research and Development
Fang Lai, Ph.D. joined Ohmx in 2014 with over 20 years of experiences in R&D.
Before joining Ohmx, she was a Research Manager at Corning Inc., responsible for developing new technologies for pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries, as well as for life sciences research, aiming to expand the Corning Life Sciences business. She managed projects involving a cross-functional team with a multimillion dollar annual budget and enabled products from conception to commercialization.
Before moving to industrial R&D, she was a member of the research faculty at the University of Chicago and the Wistar Institute, publishing dozens of research articles describing candidate genes for cancers and diseases.
Fang holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from Fudan University, PRC (Shanghai, China)
Vice-President of Quality Systems and Regulatory Affairs
Jorge Castaños joined Ohmx in 2015 with over 30 years of quality and regulatory experience in development, technology transfer, manufacturing, and commercialization of Medical Device and Pharmaceutical products.
Before joining Ohmx, Jorge held various positions in quality operations, compliance, and regulatory at Gillette (P&G), Monsanto, Abbott Laboratories, Teleflex Medical, and Smiths Medical, including several Director and Vice President positions with global responsibilities for quality systems, compliance and regulatory.
Jorge received a B.A. in Chemistry from Knox College, an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and an M.S. in Quality Systems and Regulatory Affairs from Temple University’s School of Pharmacy.
CPA, Controller and Head of Human Resources
Grace Kefer brings over 20 years of experience to Ohmx in financial and administrative management in various industries and serves as the CEO of Kefer Business Solutions. She currently oversees the accounting, administrative and personnel branches.
A graduate of Northern Illinois University, Grace took her knowledge and experience from auditing entrepreneurial companies in the public accounting sector and consulted with clients in the middle market from start-up through sales and acquisition.
Grace was previously with Price Waterhouse and Arthur Andersen.
