Healthcare experts recognize that health monitoring at home will dramatically improve
disease management. Except for blood glucose meters, however, there are very few consumer
diagnostic devices that monitor chronic diseases remotely. Ohmx fills this need by offering
a comprehensive menu of critical tests on a device that requires only a single drop of blood
for analysis. Ohmx is developing a large menu of tests routinely used for chronic disease
monitoring, including cardiac, cancer and metabolic markers, electrolytes, metabolites, lipids
and blood gases.
Unique features include bioelectronic detection, lack of reagents, low sample volume (<10 uL), speed (15 minutes), small size (handheld or portable), low cost (similar to a blood glucose meter) and testing capability near the patient (e.g., at home, outpatient clinics, physician’s offices, ambulances, etc.).
The company's technology was pioneered by Dr. Harry Gray and Dr. Thomas Meade. Dr. Gray
is a member of Ohmx's scientific advisory board and is currently a professor at the California
Institute of Technology, Dr. Meade is Founder and Chairman of the Board at Ohmx. Ohmx
began operations in January 2005, to develop accurate and cost effective biosensor-based systems.
